For LaTasha Carter, becoming a business owner wasn’t just about career growth—it was about reclaiming her time, helping others, and making an impact in her community. After spending 16 years as an accountant, she always dreamed of running her own firm. In 2022, she took the first step by officially establishing LC Taxes and More with the state of Texas. However, balancing her demanding day job kept her from fully diving into the business.
Then, in October 2024, everything changed. LaTasha was laid off, and instead of seeing it as a setback, she took it as a sign—it was time to go all in on her dream. “I’m motivated to make this work so I can have more time to spend with my family and travel more,” she says.
“As time allows, I will continue to do local service like this,” she says. “Helping those in need and hopefully bringing a little sunshine to their lives is something I will always make time for.”
Building a Business and a Community
Starting a business from the ground up comes with challenges, and for LaTasha, one of the biggest hurdles has been marketing herself to gain new clients. But through word of mouth and networking, she’s already seeing success.
Her first clients of 2025—a church member and her mother—needed notary services for important documents. Being able to help them wasn’t just a business milestone; it was a deeply meaningful moment. "That made it even more special," she recalls.
Beyond serving clients, LaTasha is committed to educating the community about taxes, saving money, and building a business. She recently connected with the Impact Group, a network focused on financial education and empowerment, and looks forward to expanding her reach to help more people understand their finances.
Giving Back Through Service
LC Taxes and More isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people. LaTasha believes in giving back to the community, and she proves it through action. She recently volunteered with her church, Morse Street Baptist Church, to serve dinner to those in need at Our Daily Bread in Denton, TX.
“As time allows, I will continue to do local service like this,” she says. “Helping those in need and hopefully bringing a little sunshine to their lives is something I will always make time for.”

A Vision for Growth
Though LC Taxes and More is still in the early stages of growth, LaTasha has big plans for the future. She is currently working on strengthening her online presence and setting up her website to better serve her clients. As her business expands, she plans to develop an internship program to provide hands-on training for aspiring accountants.
She also hopes to inspire and mentor her future employees, helping them grow professionally and, if they choose, become business owners themselves. “I value not only my time but my clients’ time as well,” she explains. “And as I grow, I want to be someone that can inspire others to succeed.”
Advice for Future Business Owners
For those looking to start or buy a local business, LaTasha’s best advice is simple: Do your research and just do it. “Align yourself with people who will support you and provide the best guidance they can. It will be hard at times, but if it’s something you really want, you have to stay focused and be all in to accomplish your dreams.”
For LaTasha Carter, running LC Taxes and More is about more than accounting—it’s about freedom, flexibility, and making a difference. With her strong work ethic, passion for service, and commitment to education, she is building more than a business—she’s building a legacy.
