The Next Generation Steps Up
A Locally Owned Business in a Changing Industry
Giving Back to the Community
For over five decades, Cody & Sons has been more than just a plumbing and HVAC company—it has been a pillar of the Dallas community, built on integrity, hard work, and family values. What started in 1969 as a one-man operation by Bill Cody has grown into a thriving business that now supports 35 families and carries forward a four-generation legacy of service.
“The best part of this business isn’t just growing revenue—it’s helping families, creating careers, and ensuring that our customers feel safe and comfortable in their homes,” says Phillip. “That’s what keeps us going.”
Built from the Ground Up
Bill Cody was an apprentice plumber with a simple realization: "Why can't I do this myself?" Armed with determination and a newly earned plumbing license, he set out to create a business that would support his family while providing quality service to his community.
His four children grew up immersed in the trade, working summers, digging ditches, and learning the value of hard work. Meanwhile, his wife, Shirley Cody, managed the business operations and customer service. It was a true family effort, one that laid the foundation for Cody & Sons' commitment to trust, honesty, and customer care.
The Next Generation Steps Up
As the years passed, Bill’s sons took different career paths, but Randy Cody eventually stepped in to help grow the family business. Taking over in the early 2000s, he focused on expanding and modernizing the company while staying true to its core values.Randy brought in his son, Phillip, along with his best friend, Mark Burke, as business partners, ensuring that expertise and passion remained at the heart of the company. Recognizing a need for broader home service solutions, Cody & Sons expanded into HVAC services in 2014, bringing on Tony Shepherd to lead the department.
As the company grew, so did the family’s involvement. Phillip’s wife joined the team to spearhead marketing efforts, and Randy’s wife, Louise, became the Customer Experience Director, ensuring every customer interaction remained personal and high-quality.
Today, Phillip’s son has joined the team as a journeyman plumber, continuing the four-generation legacy of serving Dallas-area homeowners with skill, dedication, and old-fashioned customer care.

A Locally Owned Business in a Changing Industry
While many independent service companies have been bought out by private equity groups, Cody & Sons remains proudly locally owned and operated.
“We’ve had people ask if we’ve been acquired,” says Phillip. “The answer is no. Our Locally Owned and Operated Certification makes it clear—we’re still a family business, rooted in our community, and dedicated to serving our neighbors with the same trust and quality we’ve always provided.”
Navigating the challenges of a changing industry, Cody & Sons has had to compete with big-name corporations, manage rising advertising costs, and adjust to seasonal demand fluctuations. But through it all, the company has grown steadily, hitting $8 million in sales and proving that a business built on integrity and service can thrive without high-pressure sales tactics.
Giving Back to the Community
Cody & Sons has always believed that true success is measured not just by business growth but by the impact made on the lives of others. Their commitment to giving back is evident in the initiatives they’ve taken to support those in need. One of their most meaningful efforts has been donating HVAC units to Restored Hope Ministries, an organization that helps women escape domestic violence and human trafficking. Understanding that a reliable heating and cooling system is more than a luxury, it’s a necessity for safety and stability, they have also provided free HVAC installations to individuals and families struggling to afford essential home comfort.
Beyond these major contributions, Cody & Sons actively supports the local economy by hiring within the community and sourcing from regional suppliers. Their dedication extends to local schools and organizations, reinforcing their belief in investing in the future of Dallas. Their Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, featuring pink Shubee shoe covers, is another way they raise awareness for important causes while staying deeply connected to the people they serve.
Through both large-scale donations and small everyday efforts, Cody & Sons remains committed to strengthening the community that has supported them for generations. If you’re looking for a team that values honesty, quality, and true local service, Cody & Sons is the name to trust. Whether it’s a plumbing emergency or an HVAC upgrade, they’ll treat your home like their own—because to them, every customer is family.
